The 2025 Delta Principals’ Cup football competition, proudly sponsored by Zenith Bank PLC, has reached an exciting stage. With eight outstanding schools advancing to the quarterfinals after thrilling zonal playoff matches held across the state.
Now in its 8th edition, the annual youth football championship has become one of Delta State’s most vibrant grassroots sporting events. Over 1,000 secondary schools registered for this year’s tournament, which kicked off on September 18 in Asaba. Following weeks of intense competition, the field has now been narrowed to just eight contenders vying for the coveted trophy.
Each school earned its spot by first winning at the Local Government level, where only one team per LGA qualified for the zonal stage. After the zonal battles, the following schools emerged as quarterfinalists: Ika North East, Aniocha South, Isoko South, Warri South West, Ndokwa West, Uvwie, Ughelli North, and Ughelli South.
According to the fixtures released by the organisers, Hideaplus Limited, the quarterfinal clashes promise intense action. Efeizomor Secondary School, Owa (Ika North East), will take on Justice, Peace and Success Secondary School (Aniocha South) at St. Patrick College, Asaba. Meanwhile, St. Michael College, Oleh (Isoko South), will face Ogbe Ijoh Grammar School (Warri South West). In another matchup, Utagba Ogbe Grammar School (Ndokwa West) will lock horns with Urhobo College, Effurun (Uvwie). The last quarterfinal will feature Pearlview International School (Ughelli North) against Otokutu Grammar School (Ughelli South).
All quarterfinal matches are scheduled for Tuesday, October 7.
Speaking to reporters, Tony Pemu, CEO of Hideaplus Limited, expressed excitement over the competition’s progress. “The tournament is getting more interesting, and the quality of play is exceptional. We expect even greater performances as we head toward the finals,” he said.
