Italian club AS Roma have ruled out Argentina internationals Paulo Dybala and Nahuel Molina from the October 6 farewell match for Lionel Messi against Benin.
Roma said the decision was based on sporting and logistical considerations, particularly the length of the international trip and the timing of the fixture in relation to the club’s commitments.
The club acknowledged the significance of the occasion for both players, who were members of Argentina’s 2022 World Cup-winning squad and have previously played alongside Messi.
Roma said its decision was not motivated by a lack of respect for Messi or the importance of the event and extended its best wishes to the Argentine captain and the national federation.
The Argentina-Benin match is scheduled for October 6 and is expected to form part of celebrations surrounding Messi’s international career.
Dybala and Molina will therefore miss the event despite their previous roles alongside Messi for Argentina.
