The fifth edition of the ArtMiabo International Art Festival has opened in Abuja, bringing together emerging and established artists, art enthusiasts and stakeholders in Nigeria’s creative sector.
The four-day festival, themed “African Art: Heritage and Legacy,” is being held from September 28 to October 1 at the FCT Exhibition Pavilion.
Festival convener Miabo Enyadike said the event was designed to connect artists with collectors, government officials, embassies and other institutions while promoting the preservation of Nigeria’s artistic heritage.
Participating artists are showcasing works exploring identity, history, culture and human experiences. Udie Undie said his paintings and recycled-material works examine the human mind and everyday life, while Fridausi Garba uses her art to preserve historical narratives.
Mixed-media artist Favour Enumah said her work focuses on identity, memory and inherited cultural experiences.
Another participant, Deolu Femi, urged stronger institutional support for the preservation and transportation of artworks, noting that high logistics costs could limit Nigerian artists’ participation in the international market.
The festival also features workshops, masterclasses, live art, cultural performances, food and the Nigeria Art Legacy Forum.
