Mental health experts have called for psychological services to be integrated into primary healthcare centres, schools and communities across Nigeria.
The experts said expanding access to affordable care would help address the treatment gap and enable people to receive support earlier. They recommended training healthcare workers, strengthening referral systems and improving insurance coverage for mental health services.
They also advocated school counselling and community-based follow-up programmes, stressing that mental healthcare should be accessible beyond specialist hospitals.
