Victor Osimhen, Galatasaray’s prolific striker, successfully underwent surgery on Monday. The procedure followed an injury sustained during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. The injury occurred during the second-leg clash at Liverpool FC’s Anfield Stadium on March 18. Osimhen collided aerially with defender Ibrahima Konaté, causing immediate pain and swelling.
Despite the injury, the Nigerian forward attempted to continue playing with a bandaged arm. However, medical staff substituted him at halftime to prevent further damage. Galatasaray suffered a 4-0 defeat that night, exiting the competition 4-1 on aggregate. Following the match, the club confirmed Osimhen’s surgery via X.
“Our player Victor Osimhen underwent a successful operation today at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital,” stated Galatasaray. “We wish him a speedy recovery and hope for a quick return. “Although Galatasaray exited the Champions League, the club still relies on Osimhen’s scoring prowess domestically. He has scored 19 goals and provided seven assists in 29 appearances this season.
In the UEFA Champions League, he recorded seven goals and three assists in 10 matches. His performances have helped Galatasaray maintain a four-point lead in the Super Lig. Osimhen was omitted from Nigeria’s 23-man squad for upcoming friendlies against Jordan and Iran in Turkey. His focus now shifts fully to recovery and regaining match fitness.
