Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has become the world’s highest-spending football coach since 2016. According to data from Capology and Transfermarkt, Guardiola has invested an estimated €2.05 billion. This spending clearly surpasses every other manager globally during the same period.
Guardiola joined City in the 2016–17 season and immediately rebuilt an ageing squad. In his debut season alone, City spent over €190 million on key signings. Notable arrivals included Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane, John Stones, Claudio Bravo, and Gabriel Jesus.
Following Guardiola, Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone ranks second with €1.22 billion in transfers. Simeone’s major signings feature Joao Felix, Julian Alvarez, and Thomas Lemar.
Antonio Conte comes third, spending €1.19 billion while managing Chelsea and Tottenham.
Massimiliano Allegri ranks fourth, largely due to investments at Juventus. Thomas Tuchel spent €1.17 billion across PSG, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.
Unai Emery follows with €1.13 billion at PSG, Arsenal, Villarreal, and Aston Villa. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta totals €1.09 billion since 2019, rebuilding his squad.
Erik ten Hag spent €1.07 billion, Eddie Howe €1.01 billion, and Nuno Espirito Santo €985 million.
These figures place them ahead of several top managers, including Klopp, Mourinho, and Pochettino. Guardiola’s financial influence highlights the growing impact of managerial transfers in modern football.
