Rotary International partnered with the Gombe State Government to carry out community health outreaches. The initiative focused on reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality across five locations in Gombe State.
The outreach, conducted from March 16 to 19, 2026, reached London Mai Dorawa, Kalorgu community, Shamaki ward, and Ture Balam in Kaltungo LGA. It also covered Liji ward, Gindin Waziri, and Ngare community in Yamaltu/Deba LGA. These areas received essential healthcare services directly in their communities.
This effort is part of the “Together for Healthy Families in Nigeria (PoS)” project operating in Gombe, Ekiti, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory. The project is led by Country Director and National Coordinator Emmanuel Lufadeju.
Community leaders praised the intervention for its timeliness and impact. Mallam Adamu Garba, District Head of London Mai Dorawa, said the outreach brought healthcare services closer to residents. Mallam Umar Abdullahi, District Head of Liji community, expressed gratitude for the free medical services.
A total of 48 skilled healthcare workers, including nurses, midwives, and technicians, provided services during the outreach. Other stakeholders involved included Ward Development Committee members, Reproductive Health Coordinators, and Rotary Club representatives.
Over 1,500 residents, including children, women of childbearing age, and elderly individuals, accessed medical care during the exercise. The outreach reinforced community trust and awareness of essential health services.
Rotary’s representative in Gombe, Mr. Mohammed Ndus, commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and Commissioner for Health Dr. Habu Dahiru for supporting the initiative. The intervention is expected to improve primary healthcare access and reduce preventable deaths significantly.
