The management of Wisdom Gate International School in Rivers State has appealed to the government to reconsider its closure following the tragic death of a two-year-old pupil.
The incident, which involved a falling bookshelf, led to the death of Wynnie Akakue and sparked public outrage, with the parents alleging a cover-up.
In response, the state government ordered the immediate suspension of the school pending investigations.
School proprietress Toyon Obikoya described the closure as painful but urged authorities to consider the impact on other pupils and staff. She emphasised that the institution is cooperating with investigations and has shown empathy to the bereaved family.
Parents of other pupils also appealed for compassion, noting that the prolonged closure is disrupting education and affecting livelihoods.
The case has since moved to court, with stakeholders calling for justice alongside a balanced resolution.
