The Nigeria Police Force in Kogi State has rescued 17 pupils abducted from an Islamic school in Lokoja after gunmen attacked the facility late at night.
The attackers initially kidnapped 26 individuals, including 24 pupils and two women. Following the incident, a joint security operation involving the police, military, and other agencies led to the rescue of several victims, while nine remain in captivity.
Authorities say search-and-rescue efforts have been intensified, with tactical teams deployed for bush combing and surveillance. The government also raised concerns about unregistered schools in remote areas, noting they pose significant security risks.
