Ashleigh Plumptre has started her rehabilitation in the United Kingdom after successful left-foot surgery. The Al-Ittihad Ladies Club defender shared her first update on Instagram on Sunday, reflecting on her time back home and the support she received. She wrote, “The most beautiful week back home for surgery. Grateful to be supported by my @ittihadladiesclub family during this chapter.” Plumptre also expressed excitement about personal and team growth during her recovery journey.
Her post included collages documenting her rehabilitation across various UK locations. These featured visits to London’s Tate Modern and moments with her family on crutches and in a wheelchair. Al-Ittihad Ladies Club had earlier confirmed the operation, stating Plumptre “successfully underwent surgery on her left foot” and will now follow a structured rehabilitation programme. The club’s medical staff will supervise her return to training carefully.
The surgery marks a key step in recovering from a persistent foot injury that sidelined her for months. The medical team expects Plumptre to remain out for several months, following a detailed recovery plan. This injury represents her second major setback since joining Saudi Arabia. A previous layoff in March 2024 curtailed a strong debut season, where she scored eight goals in 12 appearances.
Plumptre also missed the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, denying her the chance to lead Nigeria’s defence. Despite the challenges, she remains committed to rigorous rehabilitation, aiming to reach peak fitness for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in July.
