The Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) has launched its 2025 Player Awards, introducing a new set of continental honours designed to recognise elite and emerging scrabble players across Africa. The announcement, made through PANASA’s official channels, also unveiled two new badges that redefine the hierarchy of competitive scrabble on the continent.
The Elite Veteran Badge is reserved for long-serving players who consistently ranked in the top 10 during the first seven editions of the Africa Scrabble Championships. This honour is intended for those who have shown sustained excellence over time, excluding holders of higher distinctions such as EXP, GM, or CC.
Additionally, the Junior Continental Champion badge targets young talent and will be awarded retrospectively to winners in the U-15 and U-19 categories of the Africa Youth Scrabble Championship from 2023 onwards.
According to Nigeria Scrabble Federation spokesperson Maxwell Kumoye, the awards mark a significant shift in recognising excellence, reflecting PANASA’s commitment to supporting both established players and rising stars. Recipients will retain their badges until achieving higher competitive titles, with further details on criteria and timelines to be shared soon.
