The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has sharply criticised Governor Seyi Makinde over his recent comments on the rising insecurity in the state. The opposition party, in a strong reaction, also called for his resignation, arguing that his administration has failed to effectively address security challenges affecting residents.
According to the APC, Makinde’s remarks on insecurity were not only misleading but also an attempt to shift responsibility away from his government. Furthermore, the party insisted that leadership demands accountability, especially at a time when citizens are increasingly concerned about safety, kidnapping, and communal tensions across parts of Oyo State.
In addition, the APC maintained that the governor’s approach to security management has not delivered the expected results. It stressed that rather than making public statements, the administration should focus on strengthening intelligence gathering, improving coordination with security agencies, and deploying more proactive measures to protect lives and property.
Meanwhile, the ruling party in the state has continued to defend its record, claiming that security issues are being addressed in collaboration with federal authorities. However, the opposition insists that the situation on the ground tells a different story, pointing to recurring incidents as evidence of governance gaps.
Consequently, the APC’s demand for resignation has intensified political tension in the state. As debates continue, residents are calling for practical solutions rather than political exchanges, urging all stakeholders to prioritise peace and stability over partisan disagreements.
