The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed that political power comes through strength and strategy. He warned that Obio/Akpor Local Government Area remains a decisive bloc in Rivers State politics.
Speaking during a thank-you visit on Sunday, Wike dismissed growing calls demanding his removal from office. He stressed that only the President has constitutional authority to sack him.
Addressing party leaders, traditional rulers, women, and youths, Wike urged political realism.He stated that politics must focus on collective interest, not emotion or sentiment. According to him, power is never handed over freely but earned through deliberate struggle.
Wike cited global politics to explain how authority enables decisive international actions. He declared that Obio/Akpor holds unmatched political influence within Rivers State. He argued that areas with higher voting strength determine electoral outcomes.
Wike said Obio/Akpor has historically shaped governorship and senatorial victories in the state. He warned critics to respect the council’s political weight or face electoral consequences.
Furthermore, Wike dismissed online critics, describing them as politically insignificant. He insisted votes, not noise, ultimately decide leadership positions. The former governor reiterated his confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s judgment.
He maintained that his performance in the FCT speaks clearly to Nigerians. Earlier, Obio/Akpor Council Chairman, Gift Worlu, praised Wike’s enduring political relevance. He described Wike as a valuable asset to the council, state, and nation. Worlu pledged unwavering loyalty ahead of the 2027 elections.
He warned against ingratitude, disloyalty, and political betrayal.Similarly, Rivers Assembly Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, reaffirmed legislative support for Wike. He also pledged continued backing for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The visit occurred amid renewed political tension in Rivers State. The Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy. The development signals another escalation in Rivers State’s prolonged political crisis.
