Sen. Ned Nwoko (APC–Delta North) has described the Senate’s multi-committee budget defence meetings as vital to scrutinising government spending plans and policy priorities ahead of the new fiscal cycle.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Nwoko, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, said his participation in budget defence sessions covering Finance, Local Government, Sports and Defence reflects his commitment to legislative oversight and fiscal accountability.
According to him, budget defence sessions are central to the appropriation process, allowing lawmakers to review proposed expenditures, assess programme justifications and ensure allocations align with national development goals.
He explained that deliberations in the Finance sector focused on revenue projections, fiscal discipline and macroeconomic stability, while the Local Government session examined grassroots funding and service delivery mechanisms.
The Sports budget review scrutinised infrastructure plans and athlete development programmes, while discussions in the Defence sector centred on security funding, procurement processes and operational readiness.
Nwoko noted that engaging across multiple panels strengthened cross-sector oversight and ensured that public resources are allocated efficiently and transparently.
