Stanley Nwabali, Nigeria goalkeeper has expressed strong belief that the Super Eagles can secure an important victory over South Africa in Bloemfontein as the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers continue. The crucial Group C clash takes place today (Tuesday) and could determine Nigeria’s chances of reaching the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The Super Eagles currently sit third in Group C with 10 points after seven matches. They have managed just two wins, four draws, and one loss. Group leaders South Africa top the table with 16 points, while Benin Republic hold second place with 11 points. With only three games left, Nigeria must win to stay in contention for the top spot, which guarantees an automatic qualification ticket.
Despite the challenge, Nwabali remains optimistic about the team’s chances. Speaking to NFF TV, the Chippa United shot-stopper stressed that the squad has enough quality to overcome any opponent.
“I believe we have a very strong squad that can match any country,” Nwabali said. “South Africa are doing well and deserve respect for topping the group, but I feel we will come out strong. Every match comes with its own plan, and I believe we will win this one.”
The Eagles head into the encounter on the back of a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Rwanda, and Nwabali insists the team is ready to build on that momentum. He highlighted that Nigeria’s approach against South Africa would be different from what their opponents faced in previous games.
Only the group leaders qualify automatically, while the second-placed side must wait for possible playoff opportunities. With everything still to play for, today’s battle in Bloemfontein represents a golden chance for the Super Eagles to revive their World Cup dream.
