The Central Bank of Nigeria has revealed that domestic investors contributed 72.55% of the N4.65tn raised in the banking recapitalisation exercise.
According to the apex bank, Nigerian investors provided about N3.37tn, while foreign investors accounted for 27.45%, reflecting strong local confidence in the sector.
CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso said the programme has strengthened banks’ capital base and improved financial system resilience, with 33 banks meeting the new requirements.
Despite the gains, experts warn that credit access for small businesses remains limited.
