The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has provided urgent relief to flood and windstorm victims in Sokoto State. On Monday, six Local Government Areas received essential humanitarian aid from the Federal Government.
The distribution took place at the Government House, Sokoto, aiming to support affected communities immediately. Homes, farmlands, and livelihoods suffered significant damage during recent disasters across the state. NEMA’s intervention seeks to stabilize living conditions for residents while providing critical assistance.
Relief materials include food, non-food items, and building supplies, ensuring comprehensive support for victims. Aliyu Kafindangi, Head of Operations at NEMA Sokoto, emphasized that items are strictly for humanitarian purposes, not sale. He also urged residents to follow early warning messages to prevent further losses.
“These disasters destroyed homes, farmlands, and livelihoods. The relief materials follow joint assessments by NEMA, SEMA, and partners,” Kafindangi explained. He praised the Sokoto State Government and partners for their collaboration in the effort.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State thanked NEMA and the Federal Government for their timely assistance. He described the aid as crucial, highlighting that this year’s flooding impact exceeded last year’s. The governor expressed hope that NEMA will continue supporting communities in distress.
He also reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to disaster preparedness, resilience, and effective response alongside NEMA.
By coordinating federal and state efforts, Sokoto strengthens its ability to recover quickly from natural disasters. The joint relief efforts reflect a proactive approach to safeguarding lives, property, and livelihoods in vulnerable communities.
