The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced a significant breakthrough in its anti-trafficking efforts, seizing over 7.6 million tramadol pills and more than 76,000 kilograms of cannabis (including Colorado, Loud, and Skunk) in recent intelligence-led operations across Nigeria. Several suspects linked to the drug networks have been arrested.
According to spokesman Femi Babafemi, the massive seizures were recorded across multiple states during the first week of December.
Opioid Seizures Across States
Major opioid seizures included:
- Delta State: On December 6, operatives recovered 3,874,000 tramadol pills and 252.2 litres of codeine syrupfrom a warehouse in Asaba.
- Imo State: 1.2 million tramadol 225mg tablets were intercepted from a vehicle along the Onitsha–Owerri Road, leading to the arrest of 35-year-old Kelechi Nwakocha.
- Adamawa State: Operatives intercepted a bus carrying 1,577,112 capsules of tramadol and Exol-5 tabletsconcealed among personal items along the Maraba–Mubi route, leading to two arrests.
Cannabis Seizures and Arrests
In addition to the pills, the NDLEA seized substantial amounts of cannabis. In Edo State, two separate operations led to the recovery of 447.5kg of skunk in Agho Forest and another 315.8kg from a warehouse in Isiefve community, resulting in the arrests of Dada Adedara Babawibi and Stanley Obasuwa.
These operations continue the agency’s successful crackdown, following recent seizures of over 171,000 tramadol capsules across Niger, Benue, and Taraba states.
