The Nigeria Democratic Congress has reaffirmed that its Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assembly primaries will proceed nationwide on May 29, 2026, despite adjustments linked to the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.
The party explained that Eid caused transport disruptions, including flight unavailability, leaving aspirants and screening committee members stranded in Abuja after screening exercise. In a statement by Senator Moses Cleopas, May 28 is now reserved for arrivals, documentation with INEC and security agencies, consultations, and preparations ahead of the primaries.
Party teams in states will engage stakeholders, elders, and aspirants. However, no police, DSS, or INEC participation is allowed in May 28 activities; unauthorized actions are considered illegal.
Cleopas stressed that primaries remain scheduled for May 29, with presidential affirmation, National Assembly, State Assembly, and governorship primaries following in sequence. Results will be collated and transmitted to the national headquarters, where the National Working Committee will announce them. No state executive is authorized to announce results.
