A candidate for the presidency of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Mustapha Abdullahi, has called for greater unity and results-driven leadership to strengthen the development of Nigerian basketball.
Abdullahi said the progress of the sport depended on the combined efforts of players, coaches, officials, administrators, stakeholders and young talents.
Speaking in Abuja, he said effective leadership should create opportunities for participation while bringing different interests together around clear and measurable objectives.
According to him, Nigerian basketball has significant talent and potential, but stronger collaboration among stakeholders is needed to maximise them.
Abdullahi, who has held public-sector responsibilities, said leadership should be measured by its ability to turn opportunities into tangible outcomes and address challenges facing the sport.
He said his experience as Senior Technical Assistant to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology and later as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria strengthened his belief in teamwork, accountability and institutional development.
The candidate said he wanted to promote a leadership model based on unity, inclusion and measurable results, arguing that every stakeholder should have an opportunity to contribute to the development of basketball.
He urged members of the basketball community to support an approach focused on collective responsibility and long-term institutional development.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Basketball Federation election is scheduled for October.
