The National Association of Resident Doctors has suspended its planned strike resumption scheduled for Monday.
The association described the suspension as conditional and subject to further review.
NARD said it will reassess the decision at its next NEC meeting.
The meeting is scheduled to begin on January 25, 2026.
The decision followed an Emergency National Executive Council meeting held virtually on January 11.
The meeting reviewed progress on unresolved demands and engagements with government agencies.
NARD confirmed that several stakeholders made fresh commitments toward resolving outstanding issues.
These stakeholders included key ministries, agencies, and hospital management bodies.
The association also acknowledged the intervention of Vice President Kashim Shettima.
He acted on behalf of President Bola Tinubu to facilitate dialogue.
According to NARD, the intervention influenced the conditional suspension of the strike.
The association emphasized that the suspension remains strategic and temporary.
NARD reported progress on resolving the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja crisis.
Authorities implemented a previous committee report and formed a reconciliation committee.
Verified arrears lists have been forwarded to IPPIS for payment processing.
Additionally, the Ministry of Labour contacted the Ministry of Finance on the matter.
Promotion and salary arrears lists have also reached the Finance Ministry.
The Budget Office reportedly assured an expedited payment plan.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry will reaffirm CONMESS 3 as entry-level placement.
Committees have been formed to address locum practice and work-hour regulations.
Steps toward implementing the specialist allowance have also commenced.
House officers’ welfare issues are receiving attention from relevant ministries.
Earlier, NARD announced plans to resume its total strike on January 12.
However, the National Industrial Court issued an order restraining the action.
Ultimately, NARD will review tangible progress before making further decisions.
