The National Assembly has directed the Clerk to re-gazette Nigeria’s tax reform laws and issue Certified True Copies of the versions passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives, following allegations of discrepancies in the gazetted documents.
The decision was announced in a statement released on Friday by the House of Representatives spokesman, Akin Rotimi, after concerns were raised that copies of the tax laws in circulation differed from those approved by the legislature.
In response, the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, constituted a seven-member ad hoc committee chaired by Muktar Betara to investigate the matter and report its findings.
According to the statement, the review is aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the legislative process and clarifying the official records of the following Acts: the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025; and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025.
As part of the process, the leadership of the National Assembly approved administrative steps to re-gazette the Acts and issue Certified True Copies reflecting the versions duly passed by both chambers. The move, the statement said, is intended solely to authenticate the legislative record and does not imply any defect in legislative authority.
The National Assembly assured the public that the review is being conducted in line with the Constitution and established parliamentary procedures, and urged Nigerians to avoid speculation while the process is ongoing.
