Cooking gas marketers are preparing to import large volumes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to address supply shortages and rising prices across Nigeria.
Industry sources said prices have increased sharply from around N1,000 per kilogramme earlier in the year to as much as N2,400 in some locations. Operators attribute the situation to supply constraints, including reduced volumes from local producers and growing domestic demand.
Government officials say marketers have committed to importing additional LPG to stabilise the market, while regulators continue working with stakeholders to improve availability. The move is expected to ease pressure on consumers who have struggled with both high prices and limited access to cooking gas in recent weeks.
