The Lagos State Government has urged celebrities, influencers, and residents to stop giving money to touts, warning that such actions worsen insecurity and environmental problems.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the appeal in a post on X, stressing that handouts only encourage street miscreants to multiply and fuel lawlessness.
“What may seem like kindness only makes enforcement more difficult and creates bigger security and environmental concerns,” Wahab noted.
The warning follows growing complaints of harassment along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, where residents say motorists are being extorted and intimidated. Recently, a viral video showed touts and content creators chasing a convoy believed to be carrying Burna Boy, attempting to solicit money before being blocked by his security team.
Wahab assured that the government is working to address the menace but called on Lagosians to support by refusing to empower miscreants with cash gifts.
