The Lagos State Government seized 70 commercial motorcycles during a routine enforcement across the Island axis. The Ministry of Transportation confirmed the operation in a statement on Thursday, signed by Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi. The enforcement began at about 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and targeted multiple high-traffic locations.
Key areas covered included Falomo Underbridge, Marina, Coastal Road, Ajah Roundabout, Ogombo, Igboefon, and Abraham Adesanya Junction. Authorities also monitored 2nd Rainbow, ensuring compliance with public safety regulations and traffic rules. The operation aimed to enforce the highway ban on commercial motorcycles and prevent street trading.
Officials also targeted illegal parking, unapproved bus stops, and other activities disrupting smooth traffic flow. Seventy motorcycles were confiscated, restoring order, reducing congestion, and ensuring safer roads for commuters. The ministry stated all seized motorcycles would be forfeited to the state through the courts.
This action follows the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, regulating traffic and commercial transport activities. Commissioner Osiyemi thanked residents for their cooperation, emphasizing the government’s commitment to safe traffic movement.
Lagos authorities continue to monitor restricted routes, aiming to enhance commuter safety and reduce traffic violations. Residents are encouraged to follow traffic laws to prevent future seizures and ensure smooth transport operations.
