The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) recently conducted a health and safety training for highway sweepers. The exercise aimed to enhance the workers’ skills, efficiency, and overall workplace safety. According to LAWMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi, the training focused on personal protective equipment (PPE).
Participants learned proper use of gloves, masks, safety boots, and safe disposal of hazardous waste. The training took place along the Ikate–Elegushi corridor on the Lekki–Epe Expressway. Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, LAWMA’s Managing Director, highlighted the agency’s commitment to frontline workers’ safety and well-being.
He explained that the program is part of a broader strategy to strengthen safety protocols across Lagos highways. Gbadegesin emphasised that sanitation workers operate in high-risk environments and require the right tools and training. The program also aimed to improve operational standards while prioritising staff health and safety.
LAWMA pledged to continue investing in capacity-building programs and regular safety awareness initiatives. These measures are designed to sustain a strong culture of safety and professionalism in sanitation operations. Gbadegesin commended the dedication of highway sweepers and urged strict adherence to safety guidelines.
He reminded workers to consistently use protective equipment while performing their duties efficiently. Through this initiative, LAWMA reinforces its mission to maintain clean Lagos roads while safeguarding employees. The authority plans more trainings to ensure safety and productivity remain top priorities.
