The son of the Oniwo of Afin, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, has regained freedom. Olaolu, a serving NYSC member, was abducted by gunmen in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State. He was released on Monday after his family paid a N20 million ransom.
The kidnappers released Olaolu near a herders’ settlement around Oreke. From there, military personnel safely transported him to a nearby base. Olaolu is now receiving medical care at an undisclosed hospital. He reportedly suffered physical injuries and psychological trauma during his captivity.
His father, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, and other abducted residents remain in captivity. The kidnappers allegedly demand an additional N15 million for their release. Authorities are coordinating with security operatives to ensure their safe return. The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Kwara State’s rural communities.
