Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has joined Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States.
Idris is participating in the global gathering alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is representing President Bola Tinubu at the event.
The governor’s participation was disclosed in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, on Tuesday. The 81st UN General Assembly opened on September 8, 2026, under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”
The gathering brings together world leaders and representatives of member states to discuss issues including sustainable development, climate action, peace and security, human rights, technological transformation and international cooperation.
According to the statement, Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the General Debate on Thursday, September 24.
For Kebbi State, Idris’ participation is expected to provide opportunities for engagements with global leaders, development partners, investors and international organisations, particularly on investment and development partnerships.
The governor is also expected to participate in discussions on peace, security, sustainable development and investment, including activities surrounding the proposed Northwest Peace, Security and Development Framework 2026–2030.
Other events listed include the SDG Roundtable Discussion 2026, Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, African-Caribbean High-Level Interactive Dialogue and the Nigeria Investment Forum.
