A Kano woman, Hafsatu Yusuf, has died after giving birth to quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
Confirming the incident, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, spokesperson for the Kano State Ministry of Health, said she died around 2 a.m. following complications from persistent bleeding after delivery.
According to him, despite efforts by doctors to stabilise her condition, the bleeding could not be controlled.
The deceased, who delivered three boys and two girls, has since been buried according to Islamic rites in Hotoro.
Health officials confirmed that the five newborns are in stable condition and are currently receiving medical care at the hospital.
The ministry has appealed to the public for support for the babies, including milk and other essential items, while reiterating the government’s commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare in the state.
