The December 19 heavyweight boxing bout between British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua and YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at the Kaseya Centre in Miami is being universally described as a monumental “money fight” for both combatants.
The match, which is scheduled for eight three-minute rounds and will be streamed live on Netflix, is reportedly worth a massive $100 million purse.
For former two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, the clash guarantees a career-high payday. However, his promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed that Joshua’s focus remains on larger, long-term plans, stating,
“This isn’t ‘we’re fighting Jake Paul and retiring.’ We’ve got massive plans for 2026.” Hearn views the fight as a chance for Joshua to secure a record purse before moving back into camp for “serious stuff next year.”
Meanwhile, controversial social media figure Andrew Tate revealed that for Paul, this bout is viewed as “retirement money,” regardless of the outcome. Tate, while acknowledging the financial motivation, praised Paul’s courage for taking the fight, telling The Stomping Ground, “Complete respect, huge respect to Jake Paul… He’s a brave man.”
Despite the unprecedented financial incentive, the fight has sparked serious concern across the boxing community due to the physical disparities between the fighters. UFC star Sean O’Malley expressed alarm over the immense size and power difference, saying, “Did you see how f*cking huge that guy is? This fight, as a friend of Jake, is like, I’m scared.”
O’Malley emphasized the dangerous, life-altering risks of a severe knockout from a true heavyweight, underscoring the high stakes involved beyond the financial reward.
