Iran’s foreign minister arrived in Russia as Tehran Washington diplomacy faces uncertainty. The visit follows stalled negotiations and shifting regional mediation efforts across countries. Abbas Araghchi landed in Saint Petersburg to hold high level discussions with Russia. Officials expect him to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin during diplomatic visit.
Earlier, Araghchi travelled through Oman and Pakistan as mediators tried reviving talks. Meanwhile, US plans for envoy talks collapsed after disagreements over arrangements. Reports indicate Iran sent written messages to Washington through Pakistan as mediator. These messages reportedly outlined nuclear concerns and strategic issues around Hormuz Strait.
However, officials clarified that the exchanges did not constitute formal negotiations. Separately, media reports suggested Iran proposed reopening Strait of Hormuz. The proposal also suggested delaying nuclear negotiations to a later stage. Energy markets reacted sharply as maritime tensions disrupted oil and gas flows. Consequently, global prices rose, raising concerns about food security in developing nations.
The US president cancelled envoy travel after Iran rejected planned meeting participation. Trump later stated Iran could initiate contact directly for future negotiations. He also dismissed concerns that cancelling talks implied renewed military escalation. In Pakistan, Araghchi met senior leaders including military and political officials. He later departed for Russia to continue high level diplomatic engagements. Iran emphasized safeguarding transit through Hormuz for regional and global stability.
The Revolutionary Guards reaffirmed control over the strait as strategic deterrence. They insisted Iran would maintain restrictions despite international economic pressure. Meanwhile, Israel and Hezbollah exchanged accusations over ceasefire violations in Lebanon. Both sides continue blaming each other amid fragile truce conditions.
