India and the African Union have postponed the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit following the deadly Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of the Congo.
India’s foreign ministry said both parties agreed to reschedule the summit due to the emerging public health situation across the continent.
The summit had been scheduled to take place in New Delhi from May 28 to May 31.
According to the World Health Organization, the latest Ebola outbreak in DR Congo has already caused about 139 deaths from nearly 600 probable cases.
India also stated that it was prepared to support Africa CDC-led efforts aimed at addressing the outbreak and strengthening public health response systems across Africa.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s international airport issued a health advisory for passengers arriving from DR Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.
