Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, declared himself a freelance politician on Thursday. He stated he currently holds no direct ties to any political party. The governor made this statement while hosting Peter Obi in Bauchi. He also welcomed stakeholders from the South-East region during the strategic meeting.
Moreover, Mohammed explained that the discussion focused on unity and national collaboration. He stressed that the engagement avoided partisan interests and political rivalry. Accordingly, he noted that neither People’s Democratic Party nor African Democratic Congress stands independently at the moment. He added that both platforms face uncertainties while awaiting judicial clarity.
Furthermore, Mohammed confirmed that opposition figures continue exploring political cooperation. He said these talks could reshape alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, he maintained that no final agreements have been publicly disclosed yet. Still, he expressed optimism about forming a unified political front eventually.
Meanwhile, the governor described Obi’s visit as symbolic and forward-looking. He emphasized that the visit represents efforts to strengthen national unity. In addition, Obi clarified that his mission focused on collaboration across regions. He rejected rumours suggesting political defections or party recruitment strategies. Instead, Obi highlighted the importance of collective nation-building beyond party lines.
He urged stakeholders to work together for a stronger and united Nigeria. Notably, prominent figures attended the meeting, including Achike Udenwa. Also present were Enyinnaya Abaribe and Victor Umeh. Overall, this development reflects ongoing political consultations across Nigeria’s major regions. Consequently, analysts expect more alliances as the 2027 elections approach.
