Lagos State has expanded its Ilera-Eko health insurance scheme with two fresh packages for Nigerians abroad and visitors. The Lagos State Health Management Agency unveiled the plans during its 2025 fourth-quarter Media Parley in Alausa. Stakeholders praised the move because it deepens access, supports stronger health financing, and boosts progress toward universal coverage.
The Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, said the new plans respond to rising demand from diasporans. She noted that many residents and travellers now seek reliable protection under the state’s mandatory insurance system. This agency worked with Pinnacle Global Business Services, Nomad Doc Limited, and Mrs. Taiwo Salvador to promote the plans globally.
She explained that the rebranded packages now cater to travellers and families living abroad. The goal is to provide consistent coverage for loved ones in Lagos. Lagos Ministry of Information’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, described Ilera-Eko as highly affordable for households. He said a family of six can access full coverage for less than the price of basic medication.
He highlighted improved maternal outcomes across several communities. Added that more residents now receive care easily through accredited centres across the state. The Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs, Mr. Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, praised the initiative for filling crucial gaps for Nigerians overseas.
The Waka-Well plan supports visitors and returning migrants during festive periods. It covers malaria, typhoid, diarrhoea, diagnostics, emergency care, eye care, and telemedicine. It costs ₦45,000 for a 90-day stay or ₦75,000 for multiple visits. The Home Konnect plan allows Nigerians abroad to fund coverage for their families. It includes surgeries, chronic disease care, maternal services, newborn care, and wellness screening.
