The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Intersex Nigeria to integrate intersex perspectives into Nigeria’s healthcare policies and improve access to care for people born with variations in sexual characteristics.
The agreement, signed in Abuja, formalises a partnership that began in 2023 and includes the launch of a policy toolkit to guide healthcare institutions on more inclusive practices.
Representing the Minister of Health, Ali Pate, the Director of Family Health, John Ovuoraye, said the initiative aims to address stigma and increase awareness of intersex issues within the healthcare system.
The toolkit, developed by Obioma Chukwuike of Intersex Nigeria, is expected to support reforms that reduce discrimination and strengthen inclusive healthcare delivery in the country.
