Governor Otu Bassey of Cross River State has reaffirmed that the state is fully prepared and safe to host the 2026 edition of the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA). Speaking during an inspection tour of the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar. Otu assured that all necessary facilities and logistics are being put in place to ensure a successful event.
The governor, who was accompanied by members of the NUGA delegation. Also the management of the University of Calabar, described Calabar as a peaceful, youth-friendly, and environmentally serene city, ideal for national and international sporting events. He noted that the city’s lush greenery and calm atmosphere make it a perfect destination for athletes and visitors alike.

Governor Otu recalled that the city was the birthplace of Nigerian football. “The first captain of the national football team was a Calabar man who led the team to England for competitive matches,” he said.
