President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, confirmed Governor Siminalayi Fubara leads the APC in Rivers State. He emphasized that former Governor Nyesom Wike does not belong to the ruling party.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Hard Copy, Bwala addressed ongoing political tensions as the Rivers Assembly began impeachment proceedings against Fubara. He reiterated that the national chairman clearly recognizes Fubara, not Wike, as the APC leader in the state.
Bwala explained, “Wike may lead the PDP, but in APC, Governor Fubara is the party leader in Rivers State.” He stressed that Tinubu supports lawful internal party processes and backs APC leadership fully.
Regarding impeachment, Bwala noted court orders have temporarily halted actions against Fubara. He added, “The governor must perform his duties without obstruction from anyone.” The aide also clarified that Wike’s role as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory does not grant him party authority. “Wike serves the Federal Government, not the APC,” Bwala said.
He urged all stakeholders to respect constitutional procedures, highlighting that APC’s recognition of Fubara has settled leadership disputes in Rivers State. Fubara officially joined the APC in December 2025, leaving the PDP, and secured endorsement for a second term in 2027. Meanwhile, Rivers lawmakers cited alleged misconduct and constitutional breaches in their recent impeachment efforts targeting Fubara and Deputy Ngozi Odu.
Despite tensions, the APC maintains that Governor Fubara remains its undisputed leader in Rivers State, promoting stability and lawful governance.
