The Federal Government has urged contractors handling sections of the Abuja–Lokoja Road to accelerate work and meet project deadlines.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reconstruction of the 47-kilometre Kotonkarfe–Abaji (Abuja-bound)section by Trucrete Solutions Nigeria Ltd. is only 10.21 per cent complete. In contrast, repairs on the Lokoja–Ganaja Road, handled by Gitto Costruzioni General Nigeria Ltd. and awarded in October 2023 for six months, have reached 99.73 per cent completion.
Rehabilitation of Abuja–Lokoja Section 4A by Sailthrough Construction Ltd. stands at 22.40 per cent, while the dualisation of Lokoja–Benin Road Section I (Phases I and II) from Obajana Junction to Okene by CGC Nigeria Ltd.has achieved 38.04 per cent.
During an inspection tour, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), Dr Abiodun Essiet, said the visit was to assess progress and engage host communities. She described the road as a critical link between northern and southern Nigeria but expressed disappointment at the slow pace of work.
“During the festive period, heavy traffic here forced the Minister of Works to order the opening of the completed lane,” she said. “With just a few months to the deadline, progress is not encouraging. I am not impressed.”
