The Federal Government has opened applications for the 2026 PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme. The programme supports Nigerian postgraduate students pursuing oil and gas related studies. Successful candidates will study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
The announcement came through the Office of the President’s Social Media Adviser on Monday. Authorities confirmed the update through an official post on X, formerly Twitter. The Petroleum Technology Development Fund manages the competitive scholarship scheme.
According to PTDF, the opportunity targets qualified MSc and PhD applicants nationwide. Eligible disciplines align strictly with Nigeria’s oil and gas sector needs. The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation, and approved living expenses.It also includes return flight tickets, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable.
PTDF explained that the programme builds local capacity through global academic exposure. Scholars gain access to advanced research facilities and international professional expertise. PhD applicants studying in the UK will follow a split-site research arrangement.
This structure combines studies in Kaduna and partner universities abroad. Partner institutions include Robert Gordon University, Strathclyde, and Portsmouth University. PTDF stressed that the selection process remains highly competitive and merit-based.
Evaluators consider academic records, research proposals, and professional memberships. MSc applicants must hold at least a Second Class Lower degree qualification. They must complete NYSC and possess five O’Level credits, including English and Mathematics. PhD applicants must submit a detailed research proposal not exceeding five pages.
Applicants must verify their National Identity Number before submission. Multiple applications or false documents will trigger automatic disqualification. Interested candidates should apply online through the official PTDF scholarship portal. Applications close on February 27.
