The Federal Government of Nigeria has opened a new 80-bed specialist hospital in Ugbuwangue, Warri South LGA, Delta State. The facility focuses on maternal and child healthcare and was built through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
A Major Boost for Warri
At the event, the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, praised the project. He explained that the hospital would improve the well-being of mothers and children. He also urged residents to protect the facility and keep access roads clear at all times.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori described the hospital as a “beacon of hope.” According to him, it supports the state’s M.O.R.E Agenda and Nigeria’s efforts to meet the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
What the Hospital Offers
The hospital has several units, including:
- Emergency and labour wards
- Paediatric, neonatal, and female wards
- An intensive care unit and modern theatre
- Laboratory, consulting rooms, and staff quarters
- Backup power systems
The hospital was formally handed over to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, for management.
Looking Ahead
Warri South LGA Chairman Isaac Agbateyiniro said the facility would reduce maternal and child deaths in the area. Similarly, SSA on SDGs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire noted that the project reflects Nigeria’s progress toward SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
In addition, Dr. Ekeneam Omo, Acting Medical Director of FMC Asaba, promised quality care for all patients. He also appealed for more resources to expand diagnostic services.
