Nasir El-Rufai was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja. He arrived at the commission’s Jabi office around 10am.Investigators questioned him over an alleged N432 billion corruption probe. The case stems from a 2024 report by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
Lawmakers accused his administration of mismanaging loans and contracts. They also alleged violations of due process and reckless borrowing. Furthermore, EFCC sources confirmed he remains in custody. Officials stated he would not regain freedom on Monday. However, the commission declined detailed public comments.
Meanwhile, federal prosecutors filed criminal charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Authorities accused him of unlawfully intercepting communications of Nuhu Ribadu. The charges referenced admissions allegedly made on Arise TV. Prosecutors cited the Cybercrimes Act and Nigerian Communications Act.
In addition, the Department of State Services reopened the Dadiyata disappearance investigation. Dadiyata vanished in 2019 under unresolved circumstances. Security sources confirmed authorities seized El-Rufai’s passport. They said investigators are examining related social media posts.El-Rufai has consistently denied all allegations.
