The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has ordered a full investigation into allegations involving EFCC operatives and staff of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
The controversy followed claims that armed operatives assaulted Professor Eyo Ekpe and other hospital workers during an attempted arrest linked to an alleged fake medical report.
Following public outrage and industrial action by medical associations, Olukoyede directed that an official apology be issued while assuring Nigerians that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face disciplinary action.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Ememabasi Bassey, criticised the manner in which the operation was conducted, saying hospital management was not informed before the arrests.
Despite the incident, the EFCC boss insisted the commission remains committed to fighting corruption while improving professionalism among its operatives.
