Representatives of the Dangote Group collected the remains of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna, on Sunday, following her death at a hospital in Edo State.
Ruth had suffered severe injuries, including a leg amputation, after being hit by a truck linked to Dangote Group near Auchi Polytechnic. She passed away on Sunday morning, just weeks after the accident.
The family, through Eko Solicitors & Advocates, announced her death at around 6:30 a.m., requesting privacy to mourn. They described Ruth as a loving and cheerful individual who was deeply missed by relatives.
A family source confirmed that Dangote Group representatives were notified immediately after Ruth’s passing and took her body to the mortuary. The source indicated that the company is expected to cover funeral expenses, as they had previously supported her medical treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that Ruth’s leg was crushed by the truck, which was later stopped by a bystander. Phyna had requested that her sister be flown to India for further treatment.
Dangote Group acknowledged the incident, stating that its team visited the accident site, coordinated with law enforcement, met the family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, and pledged full medical and welfare support.
