A 500-level student of Covenant University, Toluwase Jesutunmise, has died after collapsing during a football training session on campus.
The incident occurred on April 6, 2026, after he stepped out of training due to fatigue and leg pain. Moments later, he was seen gasping for breath and was rushed to the university’s medical centre, but was confirmed dead on arrival despite resuscitation efforts.
The university said there was no negligence and that all emergency procedures and equipment were properly used. Initial indications suggest a possible undisclosed heart condition.
