Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has launched a free Easter transport scheme. He introduced the initiative under the “Season of Sweetness” programme across the state. The decision follows rising fuel prices that have increased transportation costs for residents.
Consequently, many commuters have struggled to afford daily travel expenses. The governor acted quickly to address these growing concerns among citizens. Authorities officially flagged off the programme on Monday in Calabar.The scheme offers free rides across major routes within the capital city.
It also extends services to nearby communities and local government areas. Programme coordinator Ekpenyong Akiba earlier hinted at the rollout before Easter celebrations. He explained that the initiative aims to ease financial pressure during the festive period. Additionally, it seeks to improve mobility and support local economic activities.
