A California jury has cleared rapper Cardi B of assault in a $24 million civil case brought by a woman who accused her of scratching her face during a 2018 altercation in Beverly Hills.
The plaintiff, Emani Ellis, alleged that Cardi B shouted racial slurs, spat at her, and slashed her with long fingernails while heading to a medical appointment. Cardi, then four months pregnant, denied the claims, saying Ellis aggressively tried to film her before a shouting match ensued.
Jurors dismissed Ellis’ claims for damages. Speaking after the verdict, the 32-year-old “Bodak Yellow” star, born Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, said:
“I swear to God, I will say it on my death bed, I did not touch that woman.”
