The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, says Nigeria’s military is prioritizing human security and gender in its operations to boost legitimacy, reach, and sustainability.
Speaking at the Human Security and Gender Advisers Course in Abuja, he stressed that modern security challenges including extremism, communal conflicts, and humanitarian crises require people-centred strategies that protect lives and dignity.
Oluyede described these considerations as “force multipliers” and called on participants to apply their training in planning, field deployments, and civilian engagement.
Rear Adm. Saburi Lawal noted the course, running Jan. 26–Feb. 4, strengthens cooperation between the Armed Forces, Police, and Security and Civil Defence Corps, enhancing professionalism and trust with civilian populations.
