Burnley have completed the signing of former England striker Jamie Vardy on a contract running until the end of the season.
The 39-year-old joins the Clarets after leaving Italian club Cremonese during the summer, bringing him back to English football after 13 years at Leicester City.
Vardy became one of Leicester’s greatest-ever players and remains the club’s record Premier League goalscorer with 145 goals. He scored 200 times in 500 appearances after joining Leicester from non-league side Fleetwood Town in 2012.
His time at Leicester included the club’s remarkable Premier League title triumph in 2016, while he also earned 26 caps for England and scored seven international goals.
Vardy joins Burnley at a difficult stage of the season. The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League last season and have failed to win any of their opening five Championship matches under manager Nicky Hayen. They also suffered a late 2-1 defeat to Bristol City at the weekend.
The veteran striker said he was eager to help Burnley improve their fortunes, praising the club’s history and supporters.
Hayen, meanwhile, believes Vardy’s experience and leadership can provide a major boost as Burnley look to turn their season around.
