Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has declared that his main priority for the 2025/26 football season is to stay fit and injury-free as he looks to regain his best form on loan at Werder Bremen. The 24-year-old forward joined Bremen from Bayer 04 Leverkusen on the final day of the summer transfer window but has struggled to fully settle into life at the Weser Stadion.
Now in his third season in the German Bundesliga, Boniface is determined to rediscover the sharpness and consistency that defined his debut campaign with Leverkusen. During the 2023/24 season, he recorded an impressive 14 goals and eight assists in just 24 league appearances, helping Leverkusen clinch their historic unbeaten Bundesliga title.
However, injuries have since disrupted his rhythm, something he is eager to change this season. Speaking with SABC Sports, Boniface said, “My goal is to play the entire season without injury. As a footballer, I don’t set too many personal targets — I just want to stay fit, help the team, and contribute in every way possible.”
Despite managing only two assists in eight games for Bremen so far, Boniface remains optimistic. He stressed that teamwork and results matter more than personal statistics. “Football is like life — sometimes you have good moments and sometimes bad ones,” he explained. “It’s not just about scoring goals; it’s about the team’s performance. I’d rather we win games together than score while losing.”
After losing his place in the Super Eagles squad, Boniface sees this loan spell as a chance to reignite his career and prove his quality. With Werder Bremen currently sitting eighth in the Bundesliga table with 15 points from 10 matches, he hopes to play a key role when they face RB Leipzig after the international break.
