Tension is mounting in Kwara State following a chilling threat by suspected Boko Haram terrorists to execute 176 abducted women and children from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area.
The insurgents reportedly issued a one-week ultimatum to the Nigerian government, warning of a mass execution if their demands are not met. The message was relayed through one of the victims after a Jumu’ah prayer session, according to community sources.
The traditional ruler of the community, Salihu Bio, confirmed the development, revealing that his wife is among those kidnapped. He explained that one abductee was allowed to contact her family, delivering the terrorists’ warning.
According to him, the captors accused the government of showing little commitment to negotiations despite the resources being spent to keep the victims alive.
“They said if nothing is done within one week, they will take drastic actions,” he stated.
A community source further disclosed that the terrorists have threatened to marry off some of the girls while killing those considered liabilities if negotiations fail.
In a disturbing video released by the group, an armed militant claimed responsibility for the abduction, stating that the victims had been indoctrinated and were appealing to the government for intervention.
Efforts to get a response from the police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, were unsuccessful as of press time.
Residents remain in fear as families desperately call on the government to act swiftly and secure the safe release of their loved ones.
